Must be certified to teach Special Education
This position is in a self-contained class for students who need core replacement (ELA, math, science, and social studies) instruction that is aligned with general standards. These students are typically functioning well-below grade level and need direct, explicit instruction with repeated opportunities to practice in order to acquire new skills. Typical disability labels in this class are ID mild, autism, and OHI (usually related to ADHD). The students with OHI typically also demonstrate cognitive skills that are in the mild ID range. The classroom has 1 TA and 2 students with 1:1 adults, so there are 4 adults in the classroom including the teacher. The classroom runs well, but the students do demonstrate behaviors at times. Behaviors are typical behaviors of students with autism. There is 1 student in the classroom who elopes. He has a 1:1 adult. The instruction in the class is both academic and functional. Most of the students in the classroom are in grades 3-5.
