Position Overview: As a Research Hospital Pharmacist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe preparation of medications, both for standard treatments and research protocols. You will work closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and researchers, providing critical pharmacological guidance and contributing to the advancement of innovative medical research. Your expertise in sterile compounding, drug therapy monitoring, and clinical research support will be highly valued as you collaborate on high-impact projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare medications, including research and standard care treatments, by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, labeling, and verifying pharmaceuticals.
  • Monitor drug therapies and advise healthcare teams on appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Supervise and verify the work of pharmacy technicians, ensuring accurate preparation, labeling, and documentation.
  • Provide essential pharmacological information to healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients regarding drug therapies.
  • Contribute to the development of hospital staff's knowledge in pharmacology and research by participating in clinical meetings and training.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including NY State Board of Pharmacy, FDA, DEA, and others.
  • Maintain pharmacy records, including controlled substance documentation, investigational drug inventories, and aseptic procedures.
  • Adhere to strict sterile product preparation protocols and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Active New York State Pharmacist License in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a hospital pharmacy, with a strong focus on investigational drug products and sterile product preparation.
  • Must have hands-on experience preparing IV medications and working in a cleanroom environment.
  • Proficiency with hospital-based electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or EPIC, including order entry, formulary maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience with automated drug dispensing systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow clinical trial protocols for dispensing both sterile and non-sterile products.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy regulations, including NY State Board of Pharmacy and DEA guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a research team.
  • Experience maintaining pharmacy records independently and writing drug dispensing procedures.
  • Certification in sterile compounding (BCSCP) preferred or the ability to obtain certification.
