Compounding Pharmacist
Location: Upstate New York
13-Week Contract or Temp-to-Hire Opportunity
Position Overview:
As a Pharmacist I, you will play a key role in providing high-quality pharmaceutical services. You will be responsible for sterile compounding, verifying medication orders, managing medication inventories, and providing direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The position requires compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards for sterile and hazardous compounding.
Key Responsibilities:
Inpatient:

Perform and supervise sterile compounding in accordance with hospital policies and USP 797 standards

Supervise hazardous sterile compounding per USP 800 standards

Review and verify prescriber’s orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to hospital standards and formulary

Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and medication therapy

Manage medication inventories, including controlled and non-controlled substances, ensuring compliance with regulations
-
Accurately dispense medications, document interventions, and interact with the healthcare team to improve patient outcomes
-
Distribute medications across healthcare clinics, operating rooms, and clinical areas
-
Provide medication therapy histories and patient counseling as needed
Outpatient:
-
Use clinical judgment to prepare and dispense prescriptions following safe practices and established protocols

Ensure prescriptions are accurate, appropriately labeled, and follow safety procedures

Maintain patient profiles and pharmacy records in compliance with state and federal regulations
-
Supervise pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with state regulations and hospital policies
-
Educate and counsel patients on medication use, side effects, and drug interactions
-
Resolve prescription issues independently and effectively, ensuring timely care for patients

Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, staff, and providers
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Active Pharmacist License in the applicable state
-
Experience with sterile compounding and hazardous compounding (inpatient setting preferred)
-
Fingertip and media fill testing completed before starting (preferred for quick onboarding to compounding)

Experience in both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy settings
-
Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team

Proactive and detail-oriented with a focus on patient care and safety

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
