Details:
Position Type: Full-time
Pay range: $40-60+/hr; based on experience
Caseload: 3 students services and evaluations

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in various educational settings, including inclusive classrooms, resource rooms, and one-on-one settings.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs, goals, and abilities.
  • Adapt and modify instructional materials, curriculum, and assessments to accommodate visual impairments and facilitate access to the general education curriculum.
  • Teach compensatory skills, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, independent living skills, and assistive technology proficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families to ensure coordinated and comprehensive support for students with visual impairments.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress, monitor achievement of IEP goals, and adjust instruction and support strategies as needed.
  • Provide consultation, training, and support to school staff, parents, and community members on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
  • Stay current on research, technology, and best practices in the field of visual impairment education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Visual Impairment (TVI) or ability to obtain certification/license.
  • Previous experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred.
  • Proficiency in braille literacy, assistive technology, and specialized instructional techniques for students with visual impairments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals, families, and community members.
  • Commitment to promoting independence, advocacy, and self-determination for students with visual impairments.
