Job Title: Full-Time Special Education Teacher – High School (Resource Caseload, English Focus)
Location: near Tacoma, WA
Job Type: Full-Time
Grade Levels: 9th – 12th

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in English, focusing on developing reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • Work closely with general education teachers to adapt English curriculum and ensure inclusive learning for students with disabilities.
  • Manage a resource caseload of approximately 30 students, providing both one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet individual needs and IEP goals.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student growth and engagement.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, and other staff members to ensure the success of students.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, providing input and updates on student progress.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of student progress, goals, and assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education (or a related field).
  • Washington State Teaching Certification with Special Education Endorsement (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience working with high school students with disabilities, especially in English language arts, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and committed to creating an inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
