Our 12th annual list of the Most Beautiful Hospitals in the U.S. comes after more than 1.4 million votes!
For the first time, no hospitals from Florida were represented. While there were two hospitals each from California, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Illinois, there were a record-setting four Georgia hospitals represented.
This year’s list also featured a new record (surpassing 2023) for the largest number of hospitals that had never appeared in one of our previous lists!
Here are our 12th annual rankings…
20. Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hecktown Oaks, Northampton County, Pennsylvania
(10,256 votes) Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) opened its first newly built hospital in almost 50 years with the recent completion of Phase 1 of Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Hecktown Oaks in Lower Nazareth Township. Amenities include a meditation room, market bistro, valet parking, and smart car charging stations.
19. Brook Lane Hospital, Hagerstown, Maryland
(10,350 votes) Brook Lane is a not-for-profit hospital system with a 115-acre main campus and three satellite outpatient locations. The main location in Hagerstown provides addiction treatment programs at a building that welcomes patients with a soothing color pallet an ornate covered drop-off area at the main entrance.
18. UAB Medicine, Birmingham, Alabama
(10,865 votes) University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital is a major center for clinical research and home of some of the top medical programs in the country. Located in Birmingham’s Medical District. the 1,207-bed facility is among the 20 largest in the U.S.
17. La Rabida Children’s Hospital, Chicago, Illinois
(11,333 votes) Offering colorfully-themed, playful environments within and in outdoor public areas, La Rabida is the only hospital in the country solely dedicated to caring for children with chronic illnesses, disabilities, or who have been abused or neglected and makes our rankings for the fourth time in recent years.
16. Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterborough, NH
(13,867 votes) Known originally as “The Peterborough Hospital”, the attractive charm of this facility comes alive at night, with authentic lantern-adorned red-brick pillars beckoning all into an entrance-way that rises to the top of this modest two-story facility
15. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
(14,930 votes) Last year’s #7 takes the #15 spot this year: The recently-completed re-imagining of the Circa 1890 version of this institution was ranked seventh on our 2010 list when it opened, as well as 10th by HealthExecNews in its 2012 list of most beautiful hospitals in the world.
14. Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, Wheaton, Illinois
(15,518 votes) Moving up two spots from #16 in our 2018 and 2019 rankings, one of the all-time-most-ranked hospitals is back on our list. The facility features a warm-water therapy pool overlooking a first-of-its-kind rain garden as part of an iconic, welcoming multi-level green campus.
13. Northside Hospital Cherokee, Canton, Georgia
(20,813 votes) Due to a growing local population and other considerations, this new hospital has more than doubled the square footage of the old facility. The county’s natural beauty inspired the facility’s architectural homage to Cherokee’s unique heritage, community, and landscape.
12. Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia
(21,301 votes) This center’s beautiful new Pavilion is a 250,000 sq. ft, three-story addition that opened in 2013, at a cost of $107 million. The overall expansion this addition also saw the existing building re-clad with new windows and exterior finishes.
11. NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health, Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital, Brooklyn, New York
(23,570 votes) Previously named Coney Island Hospital, South Brooklyn Health received its current name as part of a 2023 campus reconstruction that included a replacement of the old main hospital tower with the dramatically-executed new Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital addition.
10. Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, Los Angeles, California
(24,015 votes) Located on more than 15 acres of East Hollywood, redevelopment plans here call for construction at six different sites across the campus. White metal exterior with large randomly-placed windows create a look that’s both organic and modern at the same time.
9. Eisenhower Medical Center (EMC), Rancho Mirage, California
(32,354 votes) As the Coachella Valley’s only not-for-profit hospital, Eisenhower Health’s stunning grand lobby continues the facility’s New Formalism architectural theme. With timeless framed art, furniture and lighting fixtures, the Edward Durrell Stone-designed atrium looks like it could have been conceived of decades ago…or last week.
8. Upson Regional Medical Center, Thomaston, Georgia
(41,104 votes) Surrounded by acres of gorgeous forestland, Upson Regional is a full-service, DNV Healthcare-accredited organization serving middle Georgia. The facility’s dedication to stroke patients has earned it a Get With The Guidelines SilverPlus award and the American Heart Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus award.
7. Northeast Georgia Health System Braselton, Braselton, Georgia
(46,601 votes) Vibrant reds paired with beiges and grays adorn a curved multi-storey atrium. The beauty of this 188-bed hospital is surely a cure for common institutional architecture. The 119-acre Braselton campus is also home to a medical plaza with several specialty physician offices, a resource center and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
6. Caldwell Regional Medical Center, Caldwell, Kansas
(91,322 votes) This attractively-landscaped Critical Access medical center featured alternating colors artistically alternating along the main entrance. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency care along with primary care, acute care, respite care, swing bed and intermediate swing bed services.
5. Community Hospital – Grand Junction, CO, Grand Junction, Colorado
(113,608 votes) This new 126,000-square-foot hospital features 44 private patient rooms in a four-story facility that opened in 2016. An entire floor with a private entrance is dedicated to labor and delivery. Innovations at the facility include an emergency room robot to support a “tele-help” process.
4. Chickasaw Nation Medical Center, Ada, Oklahoma
(130,284 votes) Using natural materials from the local area, Chickasaw Nation Medical Center’s sweeping wooden overhang welcomes patients and staff into a stylish atrium. Located in the rolling hills of southeastern Oklahoma, a beautifully-landscaped campus of rolling lawns and flowering shrubs gives way to rock gardens and patios.
3. The University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC), Rio Rancho, New Mexico
(179,144 votes) Nestled among the picturesque hills and escarpments of the Albuquerque Basin in New Mexico’s fastest growing region, Rio Rancho’s 60-bed, 200,000 square foot University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center is a 2018 recipient of Women’s Choice Award America’s Best Hospital Patient Safety.
2. Southeast Health, Dothan, Alabama
(241,233 votes) Southeast Health is a general medical and surgical facility rated high-performing in 5 adult procedures and conditions according to U.S. News and World Report. Soaring four-storey windows create a main entrance with natural light and columns featuring natural rock complimentary to the surrounding environment.
1. Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Americus, Georgia
(347,484 votes) The hospital that took the top spot in our 2015 rankings is back at #1 for 2024. This 76-bed acute care facility opened in 2011 after the hospital’s previous building was destroyed by tornado in 2007. Phoebe Sumter’s LEED-certified state-of-the-art facility features an eco-friendly rooftop garden, beautifully-landscaped outdoor water features, and elegant use of natural lighting.
With more than a third of a million votes (nearly four times as many votes as when it last topped our list), Phoebe Sumter Medical Center has been voted our 2024 Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S.
