We have jobs for medical physicists throughout the U.S. You can choose what region of the country you want to work in, what size city and even what type of facility you prefer— acute care hospitals, cancer research hospitals, outpatient treatment centers and other fantastic locations.

As an integral part of any radiation oncology team, medical physicists perform some of the most demanding work in the field. But the emotional rewards of helping cancer patients are worth it. At Soliant, we make sure you get the level of job rewards and flexibility you’re entitled to receive.

The job market for medical physicists is strong, and you can expect it to get stronger as the population gets older and more people require radiation therapies. For professionals with your skills, this is great news. And Soliant has what it takes to harness this growing demand and turn it into a great working situation for you.

Medical Physicist Duties

A medical physicist works directly with radiotherapy or nuclear technology, and is an essential part of the chain of command at any hospital or clinic’s oncology department. A medical physicist is required to use their knowledge of physics to help utilize the special equipment that protects hospitals and healthcare individuals from radiation. Radiation hazards are always a large risk in hospitals, and an oncology department must be properly equipped with the protection needed to ensure that no radiation leaks or surpluses occur. The medical physicist’s daily duties include medical imaging, ensuring equipment functionality and calibration, monitoring radiation use and assisting radiation therapists and oncologists with the treatment of patients.

Medical Physicist Education Requirements

A medical physicist who wishes to pursue a career in research and development positions is required to have a master’s degree in physics, as well as years of clinical training, security clearance and state licensure. Those who wish to pursue a career in most other concentrations of medical physicist fields are required to have a doctorate degree in physics or a directly related field. Most hospitals will require a baseline education history of a master’s or Ph.D. program to qualify for a position. They must have also completed a residency through a hospital or clinic, and pass the examinations given by the national board in order to become certified to practice medical physics.

Medical Physicist Job Market

Medical physicists are high in demand, as protection against radiation will never be unwanted by hospitals or healthcare facilities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected job growth of 8% between now and the year 2024 for all medical physicist positions, making it an ideal time to finish up credentials and land a career in the field of medical physics.
